Developing lots of power and utilising robust hardwearing components throughout this heavy-duty rear-tine tiller from MTD is well-placed to deal with tough allotment- and smallholding-based tilling applications. Making it tick is a high-end Industrial / Commercial Briggs & Stratton engine that produces a beefy 6hp and which employs the U.S. manufacturer?s advanced overhead-valve technology for environmental compliance; significantly cheaper fuel-costs; and reduced maintenance requirements. The MTD T405 Rear-Tine Tiller has been fitted with 16 heat-treated self-sharpening tines which are made from sprung-steel ? this means that they will simply flex slightly rather than break when placed under extreme stresses (the tines give a 43cm working-width and are dual rotating). Power is delivered to the tines via a professional-grade chain reduction transmission which is permanently sealed in an oil-bath for years of rock-solid service. Thanks to its wide-profile large-diameter chevron-patterned pneumatic tyres the MTD T405 can be used in the most adverse conditions and remains stable on uneven ground. It has a front-mounted weight-box which you can sand-ballast should you need the tines to dig-in a bit more; and it features a serrated steel ?groomer? that trails behind the tiller leaving the freshly cultivated earth looking neat and tidy.
