Working Away at My Garden

We bought a new house last August, which has nothing in the yard except for two apple trees and three maples. So after a very cold Spring, I finally am able to get going and I am thrilled so far!

Diane, I have a paved yard ajoining the house as well as a garden which is separate, so the use of the word yard doesn't sound strange to me. My yard is full of acers at the moment, and my mini-greenhouse:)
Sunflower, I love your maples:)

This encourages me. I have to do raised bed cultivation because of clay soil. Presume you are in Canada. Strange to us how they call a garden 'the yard.'
Over here in the UK a yard is a paved area beside a warehouse or shop. What is this called in Canada ?
