Birdwatch Comes Home May 2014

Been a bit cold of late so increased my out put of meal worms and suet balls. The response by the local birds been quite astonishing.
I tried taking photos at 5.00 am but unable to tell the birds to keep still long enough for a good shot.
I had to wait later on in the day as I am no expert at the light settings etc…..
Showing me a bit of the back…..
I never knew how big the woodpecker was….
07.14 am and a smaller looking woodpecker looks on from the fence….
Remind me of a big
version of a Nuthatch…
I wouldn’t like to be on the receiving end of that bill….
The woodpecker eats some suet ball it’s before taking a beak full away….
Bit later a smaller woodpecker returns…
Next the larger Woodpecker’s turn…
Have not seen any squabs about but the higher of the two looks a bit different…These two eating from the seed feeder…
2 starlings a woodpigeon and a collared dove having a quick peck….
This is the larger of two Jay that kept popping back for food….
Even got the Robins after the suet balls….

Sorry about so many Woodpecker shots but amazed how many time they came back for the RSPCB Suet balls…..

What a great selection of shots - love the woodpecker we do not get them on our feeders but we do get a lot of finches - now and again we get a pair of bullfinch but mainly goldfinch - greenfinch and chaffinch and the blackbirds - starlings and a robin make for the sultana dish - Jane

Great shots! I'm going to try and get some bird feeders set up, once I figure out what I'm doing with the layout here. I think we mostly get the common variety of birds around here but maybe I'll tempt some pretty one's to come.
