Appears two Acer seeds have germinated and i only brought the trays in on Sat. Both trays are in humid condition in propagator but am very surprized at earley germination. Packet refers to spasmodic germination over 9 to 12 months and both trays hold 5 seed,s each. Started the process on 6th of october 2011, in 3 stages, soaking, then humid conditions, then extreme cold for 8 wks. Both trays in warmth now. Very excited will keep all posted on progress. Take care Tony

Hi kildermorie This is my second attempt at Acer germination. Failed miserably first time three yrs ago. Apparently they require extreme cold to prompt them into germination. Heat brings them into growth. Seeds were very hard so i soaked them prior to humid conditions to assist seed coating. The latter was not on the seed packet i got the tip from a very old seed book. Will show photo,s asap as seed,s are just penetrating the soil surface. Take care watch this space. Tony

I have been trying to grow Acer seeds for a while, with no luck. I pluck them from a nearby park fresh then stick them in some loamy soil in a border. Do take some photos as I am interested and keep us posted.
