Sick Ceanothus

Well this hedge is looking pretty sick isn’t it? I think it has been the lack of rain and attention by me but I think 2 of the shrubs have died. As we are putting the house on the market in May I don’t want to dig the shrubs out so I have planted 3 clematis around the roots which will hopefully grow over the offending objects.

Although, if any of you guys have any other suggestions for a great disguise they would be welcomed
