The Hauser and Worth Garden

If you follow garden design, you will know one of the biggest names just now is Piet Oudolf. Piet is a Dutchman and the leading proponent of the new perennial movement, which includes prairie planting. In 2014, he was asked to design a 1.5 acre garden at Durslade Farm just outside Bruton in Somerset for the new Hauser and Wirth art gallery that was being opened there.

My friend and I went to Devon for a few days last month and decided to visit on the way down. But we picked a Monday when the garden is closed, so we stopped on the way back instead. You enter through a spacious entrance lobby and come out on to one end of the garden by a small pond

From there you can wander between immaculately maintained beds of perennials and grasses

The whole plot is looked after by just one gardener (as far as I can tell). The garden is free to enter, but you currently need to book on their website because of COVID restrictions:

We will be going back later in the summer or autumn to see it again

come the late summer I bet it will be a blaze of yellows/russets etc if he follows what he normally does. This is a lovely blog and i will put this on my 'a garden to visit' bucket list.

I'd love the follow up blog after you've been again.
