Sbg - it will make a huge difference to the border against the fence. Sunlight from the west is no longer blocked.

They are new neighbours (moved in two months ago) and asked if I had any objections before having it removed. I was able to recommend my tree surgeon who they employed. I noticed later there is a shrub in a pot stood on the stump, but limiting the roots in a pot should prevent excessive top growth

Klahanie - it's too early to say, but as I can't see into their windows, I'm assuming they can't see into mine

They sound like good neighbours and augers well for the future. Evening sun is a bonus then.
