A Wet, Mild Autumn

How wonderfully mild it has been this Autumn, but how wet and difficult for gardeners, the lawns are like hay fields lush and green but too wet to mow, thank goodness for my ride on lawn mower that I can cut up on high perhaps shooting out at 6.0 p.m. if it is drier than it has been for days, never miss an opportunity!!! and so my garden or 7 gardens as I have them laid out, look so pleasing to the eye. The other advantage between the showers or storms the weeds come up so easily!! Thanks to the fact that in my earlier years I thought of the future and laid lots of paths and raised beds with gravel paths so that life would be easier in the future. Loving my garden I could not bear to think of it getting covered with brambles in my old age!! I am being rewarded for my forward thinking. In spite of the Autumn we are having, I can still go out and enjoy the views in each garden section, see where I have planted my bulbs in place of a patch of weeds and enjoy the clumps of varying shades of green where I have cut back, all done in ten minute stints between the showers and caring which limits me to 10/20 minute escapes. The co lours are so rewarding and knowing that Spring is the next phase and knowing what show to expect the anticipation drives me on. Nature is a wonderful healer and consoles the spirit!. Where would I be without it?

hello Telme8 how are you? I am pleased you are enjoying your garden. yes future planning is important.
Raining here again so I cant get out and dig. I need some dryish weather really. But so does a lot of the country.

Lovely blog Telme8, could not agree more with you about nature being a great healer, I always try and help folk with advice on how gardening really is the answer to good well being and can go along way to help people with depression etc.

Lovely to think Seaburngirl and Hywel that you are still the old stalwarts on this wonderful gardening line, unlike me who has neglected it a lot in the past few years owing to restricted quiet times. but I still get my quiet times in the garden out of sight out of mind for short spells where I can keep my eyes peeled but out of ear shot! Thanks Julian, I do so agree. I have turned this last few years to using a lot of Bark which enables me to walk onto our very clay soil without getting my boots clogged up! which helps a lot in my situation. not that one wants to walk on the soil much in this weather, but it does help if you have to reach a very unwanted customer!!!
