Yesterday we had a very enjoyable day out.
I had heard many favourable words spoken about Towersey Village Festival and it certainly lived up to them.
This year my son,Iain and his girl-friend wanted to go but needed transport, so Paul and I were invited to go along with them. The spare seat in Mum’s taxi was taken by another of their friends.
Paul and I were not sure what to expect …… soggy fields and marquees or ……
The festival website says: ‘Do as much or as little as you like, eat and drink, shop or browse, join in or just be entertained. At Towersey Showground we cater for everyone and we aim to offer a unique experience packed with culture, great food, real ale and fun for all the family.’
Yesterday the attractions listed included arena dance shows, talko drumming, giant angels, stilt-walkers and jugglers, Appalachian dancing and street theatre.
Between attractions there were umpteen stalls to browse at the trade, craft and music fair. There it is possible to pick up some unique gifts and great bargains from plants & herbs to jewellery & clothes, pottery & handmade items to olives and even a massage! The Village Stalls offer bric-a-brac, tombola and 2nd hand treasures.
Once shopped out and footsore Paul and I quenched our thirst at the Bar while being entertained by Steamchicken,a bustling bluesy five/six piece, harmonica and mandolin swapping leads/improvising melodies, bass/piano and percussion keeping the rhythm tight and tenor sax blowing over the top. Tunes from Jelly Roll Morton to Playford to Lonnie Donegan and all points in between.
Conversation on the way home was all about shopping successes (mine included a Green Man wall plaque bottle opener, variegated myrtle, aloe vera and two scented geranium plants) and entertaining experiences.
A great day out was had by all.
