Over the easter holidays we had our two grandkids for two weeks,one afternoon we took them to Birkenhead park which is acknowledged to be the first publicly funded park in Britain.It was designed by Joseph Paxton in 1843 and opened in April 1847.Joseph Paxton later became a sir.In 1850 an American called F.L.Olmstead visited the park and he later became famous as the Designer of Central Park in New York.What an enjoyable afternoon it was here endith the history lesson.

Lovely photo's A73,and a lovely place.I have only been to Birkenhead once,when I lived in Liverpool for a while,but wouldn't have appreciated it sooooo long ago,like I would now...it looks so peaceful.......

Thanks Bloomer yes it is a lovely place with alot of history,like most public parks lovely through the day different story at night.Past through Port Sunlight village tonight on the way home about16.45 took some photos going to add them shortly,see what you think.

It's a lovely park with very nice views. I love the photo of that building with an arch. I'd have drawn it if I was in the park lol

As you say, so much history to this park. It was the first publicly-funded municipal park in the world; it also inspired Frederick Law Olmsted's design for Central Park, Manhattan. I really enjoyed seeing the Boathouse and Swiss Bridge for real. :-)
