Bella Donna Blues

Hi, sorry I’ve not been able to log on lately but I’m a teaching assistant in a primary school. Something happened today and just had to make a post. Been a funny sort of day, I’d be the first to admit being a bit geeky over plants, bushes, trees and the like so when my teacher took the kids out for a nature trail whilst I was ‘filing’ and stuff, i decided to have a snoop round as well during my dinner hour. Came across an interesting looking plant, in fact a whole lot of them in the schools veg patch, vaguely tomato in form, spear shaped leaves, irregularly sized with dull black berries….ummmmm. Atropa Belladonna also known as Deadly Nighshade looks a bit like that I thought so whispered to the teacher what I’d found. Whereupon teach digs out some books on wild flowers and we had a good look at them. I’d got it wrong, it wasn’t Deadly Nighshade, but ‘Black Nightshade’ just as poisenous, all members of the Solinaceae Family, growing in the school veg patch, I could of laughed if it wasn’t so serious. The head passed by at this moment so I spent the next half hour surrealy digging up the stuff with the Head teacher… So next time you visit a school, keep an eye out for any odd looking plant, you never know what you might find.
