Nerines

Today I went in search of Agapanthus ‘Johanna’ for my sister Johanna’s birthday… I had tracked it down with the help of GOY and found it in a nursery called Pine Cottage Plants in N Devon, where they hold the national collection of Agapanthus. However its not really the best time of year to see these in all their glory (and although I bought ‘Johanna’ it is just leaves at the mo) … but there was a wonderful array of nerines in flower. I’d only ever really seen these in pale pink in people’s gardens and it was a wonderful eye opener to see them in many shades and sizes. They were growing mostly in pots in a cool greenhouse, lovingly nurtured by the owners of the nursery – who generously let me photograph them. So here they are to share and enjoy! Apparently some are very tender..
But all are absolutely beautiful! Hope you all like them too…
And here’s a painting of an agapanthus done for my sisterto show her what hers might look like if she looks after it!!!
And here’s a pic of Agapanthus Johanna as of today…. it can only get better!!

Ooooh!! I shall have to ask you where this Nursery is, Antigone! If you can travel there, so can I!
I started off three years ago with 10 bulbs - I've only got ONE flower on its way this year!
They are beautiful flowers. Thanks for showing us.

Hi Spritz and everyone thanks for comments. The nursery is Pine Cottage Plants at Eggesford near Chulmleigh - if you google them you will get their website. But you need to phone beforehand if you are going at this time of year as I think they are going on holiday soon. Its well worth a trip though - and the drive there from Taunton was great, lovely countryside!!
Will let you know how my sister responds to her pressie - have to say it doesn't look too exciting at the mo!! x

I think an Agapanthus is a wonderful present :o). I'm sure your sister will appreciate it when it flowers.
