All seeds on the windowsill have started to sprout already. I wonder if i got to eager and started some off too early. The Pinokkio lettuce is looking a bit too leggy although the Winter Gem variety is looking a bit sturdier. Im cheating and have a daylight lamp on for them as the overcast days are a bit too dim at the moment.
I’ve sown some carrots outside already and plan to put the cauliflower, spinach and Winter Gem in later this week. Exciting. This is one of my favorite times in the garden when the seeds have been planted in their rows and the soil is all well dug and dark with mulch. Not much to look at now but there is so much potential there!
Cabbage whites usually eat more of my cabbages than i do, what with the mice eating the strawberries and the birds eating all the currants i must have some of the most well fed critters in Jersey in my garden, so this year my garden will be mostly netting! I am trying to work out what kind of netting fortress it will be this year, the thing about having to rotate veg crops is that i can’t set up anything permanent so i shall be trying once again to build something the butterflies cannot get into but I can. I have had more than one embarrassing moment of being caught up in my own nets trying to weed cabbages!
I’ve been enjoying getting tips from this site, I am going to get some Nasturtium seeds to hopefully lure the butterflies away from the brassicas and I am going to try the ‘straw filled flower pot’ trick to get rid of some earwigs.

I would imagine that your temperatures are generally higher than here on the mainland? I think you're ahead of most of the veggie growers on the site! Good to hear that you find GOY helpful, though. :-))

Ever thought of using old net curtains instead of netting ?

It must be nice to have such a long season Arianya, mind you you're a bit quick off the mark even for Jersey. The first crop of the season is always the best, hope the grubs leave enough for yourself.

Yep, I'm very lucky when it comes to climate, although it did snow a bit sunday it didn't get below 4. Some Narcissii are coming out already here!
Good idea to use the net curtains Megan, I don't use them myself, but I might find some in a second hand shop somewhere. I kind of like the idea of having a lacy garden, neighbours are definitely going to think I'm nuts, hehe.
