After living and gardening for 30 years in the UK I am now having to find a whole new range of plants to suit the dry and extreme conditions of this part of the world. Amazingly am often surprised by the plants that are able to survive in this conditions.

The Spanish on the whole are not a nation of gardeners, unlike the British, from whom I learned to love variety in plant combinations, and a naturalistic way of planting. Recently a neighbor came by to suggest that my slightly wild cottage garden, overgrown at the end of summer, was in need of chopping back and would I like his gardener's phone number to come and clear the weeds.
