separating plant at root [ RUDIBECKS]

my neighbour asked me if I could help her with a plant problem,
she has a plant called[I think]RUDIBECKS, she wants to know if she can split the plant now, or wait until autumn or spring,as I am still learning I cant help her,so is there anyone out there who can give advice,please.

Julien, thank you so much for your reply, I will pass it on to my neighbour, she will be very pleased, again thank you.
I have been off line for many months, due to moving house,& family committments,but I see nothing has changed on this site, the same friendly folk, with lots of help & advice to share with each other.

I divide my Rudbeckia's in the spring just before they start to grow about every 3 years, the trick is not to make the divisions too small aim for 2 plants or 3 at most.

They're quite easy to split, and I potted up some too, and sold them on my plant stall! They do spread, as you've found out, Boydie.

Hello boydie, i think the plant you have is called Rudbeckia, if so it will be in flower now or not far off, normally quite tall, they are perennial and can be divided at the back end, say november, cut the old stems down and divide useing a spade, it's so easy,.
