Baby gardener

My wife of 50 years died last year leaving me in ignorance about the garden and her roses, camellias, potted colour etc so I have gardening help every 6 weeks but would appreciate advice when I find something I find unusual (not in the books.)
My question is, is this privet, if so I will remove?
Bizarre damp and cold growths which are on only one of the camellias

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife and do hope you are finding some solace in tending the garden.
The first picture looks like Russian vine to me, also known as 'mile a minute'. We used to have one and just hacked it back whenever it got out of hand and it always regrew very rapidly.

welcome to GoY brislen.
No its not privet. Cant make out what it is. if you take a sharper image of the leaf and what look like flower? spikes and post it as a question. like you did for the camellia problem someone will be able to id it.
In the back of my mind I am thinking Russian vine but not sure.
