I’ve always wondered about writing a blog; what would I write and wouldn’t it be boring for people to read about my everyday life ?. Then I came across this great site, GOY and I started reading about other peoples everyday gardening lives, I loved it and found it so interesting.

So..I’ve decided to give it a go !!.

I have been gardening for about 8 years and am currently working on my second garden. My first garden was a very small plot that backed on to the Grand Union Canal in Loughborough, where we owned a small townhouse. When I moved in with my (now) Husband the garden was a mass of long grass and weeds. He was not much of a gardener !! & didn’t even own a lawnmower !!. We removed all the grass and created a paved gravel garden with a patio at the bottom of the garden that joined on to the canal. Although border space was minimal we specialised in growing plants in containers and had about 100 planted each year. People passing by on their boats and barges loved it, as did we. It was a real suntrap throughout the day.

But, we outgrew the house and decided to move to a bigger detached property.Although a modest sized garden we have now managed to reshape and create additional borders. There is a good sized patio laid a couple of years ago & perfect for sitting with a cup of tea catching the morning sun, a gazebo for relaxing in the late afternoon sunshine, a shed which is packed full of tools etc, 2 other seating areas and a wonderful little wildlife pond which is home to frogs and newts. The garden is east facing but still seems to have part of it in the sun each day, as there are no large trees or houses that really cast any shadow on it, which is great. Does get very damp and mossy in the winter though. Here are some piccies taken 3 years ago …..

Well, I’ve given the blog a good go & introduced you all to the beginnings of my gardening interest. So, I’ll sign off for now & see if I can write a second instalment shortly.
