After Brixham, just down the road a way’s is Berry Head.
This is the Southern Fort ( Fort 1 ) its one of two forts constructed at Berry Head between 1795 and 1805 to protect against invasion from the French.
The old moat
There isn’t much left of the old walls here
Most of it was dismantled in around 1820.

They must have been so frightened of the French to build so many forts to try to stop an invasion. All that stone carted about to build these places, by horse and cart. Lovely place to visit but shudder at the threat. Looks lke a good place to walk. Lovely views.
