Honey Fungus panic!

Hi! Wanted to show you photo’s of a dead conifer tree stump (some 8 years old) which I was not sure is honey fungus and in case anyone else has the same spores.
When digging the soil a few weeks ago, I did not come across any black “boot lace” type rhyzome (sp.?) roots.
There are not any white rings around the stem under the top of the fungus which the RHS shows in one of it’s website pages under the subject of honey fungus.
I’ve spent a sleepless night last night worrying about this dreadful disease. Hopefully this is not a harmful fungus and as I’ve bought around 40 or so new plants for my garden these last few weeks, (as well as 30 new hedge whips) you can see why I’ve been panicking!
My heart goes out to those who have had to work jolly hard to eradicate it from their gardens.
Have any Goy’ers got any stories to tell on this subject?

I'm not sure, but I don't think what you have is Honey fungus (Armillaria meelea) I will do a bit more research this evening. I think it is more likely to be a fungus which grows on dead wood rather than one which attacks living tissue. I'll do my best to find out and get back to you. Hopefully with good news.

I don't think this is Honey Fungus the top of honey fungus tends to be black in the centre and it grows in a fan shape. The smell is very strong and I tend to agree with
Toto it's more than likely to be a fungus that grows on dead wood

Never think of using wikipedia, I always use google!
You could be right, the shape of the top is not convex is it? And it's perhaps a bit too orange in colour to be hf. Ooooh, hoping more peeps agree!!! The only other way to check it out, is I'm gonna go and look at it in the dusk and see if it glows......
Will report back!
