The results of yesterday meeting re the closure of the garden.
The Chairman and Secretary of The Friends of Suntrap were meeting with the NTS today. The remit from the meeting was to try and get a stay of execution whilst we try to put in place a plan to run the garden with volunteers.
It is by no means a foregone conclusion that we will be able to come to an agreement with NTS, the garden is still in great dnager of being sold off to the highest bidder and the garden possibly disappearing under a housing complex.

I agree. The buiders have pinched too much of green space in their never ending
quest for land, even from peoples gardens.I think I heard recently, that this practise
was being stopped, but don't know if it helps you or not...good luck in your fight, csarina,,hope you get it resolved in your favour.

Ooooh this makes me mad! The one thing you can pretty much guarantee is that every one of the swines involved in this idea has a bloody great garden, probably in protected green belts.
Has this country (Great Britain) not learned anything in the last few years? The greed of the few outweighing the interests of the many!
I'll shut up now in case I get really angry.

You could not get any more angry than I am. What really upsets me is that the garden is a life line for groups of adults with learning difficulties, they get great pleaseure from gowing things and doing little jobs they are quite capable of doing. There has never been enough publicity about the garden, if you start talking about Suntrap people just look at you........for years when my OH and I were involved in the garden we begged for more publicity and also to open a small cafe on the site, but at every step we were blocked by Oatridge the college who were given the garden for use by their horticultural students. Oatridge never spent any money on the buildings on the property, one of the reasons we are in the situation we are in........needing a lot of money for capital expenditure to upgrade the buildings. We have not been allowed to see the report from the surveyors,,,I suspect it has been highly inflated and the work can be done for a lot less.....

That would be such a shame. I hope it can be saved.
