This is my daftest mistake to date. What's yours?

I have two grafted Salix Repens Voorthuizen ( a creeping willow) in two foot high pots which sit on the patio and prop open the doors during summer. Wanting some garden fragrance to waft indoors during the warm evenings, I decided to plant some fragrant flowers around my little trees.

Now I’m new to gardening and as I don’t really know what I’m doing, I’ve been writing all my plants and seeds down in a book along with as much information as I can find out.

So what to plant. Looking through my book I realised I had some seeds which promised to produce very fragrant flowers and only grew to 15cm. So I planted them, one in each corner. And they started to grow. And grow. And grow. They got BIG!!

My Nicotiana plants are currently over 4ft high.

It was never going to work was it?

Lesson? – When you write information down, make sure it’s accurate. There is a world of difference between 15cm and 150cm!

P.S. I did get something right – they smell divine…

Daisy you can get nicotiana both small and large, sometimes out of same packet of seed, you`re right they have a lovely perfume, even when saving ones own seed you can often get a surprise.....

I have some in pots near the back door of an evening they smell gorgeous, different to yours though Daisylou, they self seeded themselves in the pot with the lillies in so i just moved them on when they got big enough!!

We all live and learn daisylou. Life is for living, learning is being in touch with fellow goy'ers. I've learn't more in the last couple of weeks than I could have wished for.

That's a gem of an error!!
When I was new to gardening, I planted a ton of seeds in all my new seed trays and never marked them (because I could remember what was where).
I don't need to tell you what my lovingly dug beds looked like in the first year!!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments, I've found some seeds at Suttons for a smaller variety which I will try next year. However I'll still grow Sylvestris again too as I think they look amazing as well as the gorgeous scent. I'll just plan it next year. Chris - they're even taller now! Lol Meanie, why do we always think we'll remember...
