At the moment i am desperately watering my garden, mainlyveetables and fruit. althou i am a lover of fuschias and show auriculas. i live on a two way hill, with very light soil, and no matter how much i waterthe garden it still seems bone dry the next day. i cant make up my mind as to whether i am an idiot to carry on, or someone who loves his garden, and will do almost any thing to get his plants to grow. any advice on how to water efficiently would be very welcome. also to hear from others with the same sort of problems.

good advice Sbg, work with the conditions you have , see what other gardens grow well and improve the soil and try mulching after a good soaking

I know the feeling, i am either watering the garden or the allotment at the moment, unfortunately my water bill will be sky high - hopefully the flowers will be as well!

hi. no you are not an idiot just a passionate gardener like many of us here on GoY. Have you tried to enrich the soil with humus/compost. this would help retain the water and slow down the drainage.
the other solution is to grow plants that like these conditions.
