Small ponds.

New gardeners installing small ponds need to guard against Algae forming. Horrible stuff to scrub off !
A couple of sheets of reject plywood over the pond on hot sunny days solves the problem.
Also cover water butts, keeps the water lovely and clear.

I agree Drc726, a couple of weeks sees the end of the green scourge. I rarely have green water in the pond after the initial greening in the spring. Unless I or OH faff about with it.

I would hate to have sheets of plywood on my pond summer or winter and when you remove the plywood it comes back because the problem has not been addressed. Sorry but there are much easier and more natural ways to avoid/get rid of Algae. My pond is a natural one, 14 years old now and its clear due to correct planting etc. A new pond needs to be allowed to settle and some greening is to be expected but it does not last if the pond is balanced.
