Anyone can do it !

Today I brought home 7 large brown cardboard boxes.

These are ready if we get a freeze-up again this winter.

I will set them out on my greenhouse shelves, to put my Container Plants in, tucked around with crumpled newspaper.

Then cover with 2 layers of fleece.

good for you being prepared, its a good idea, forecast has not been good, i will put some kind of materials down in conservatory ready to bring some tubs in, dont want to lose any more plants, they are so expensive now..

Let us see if it works. Personally I decided to leave everything to its faith. I'm doing it on purpose, because from now on I want grow hardy plants only. I feel tired to look after them very much.

Well.....living in Scotland we have to be prepared. Mine are all tucked up in the greenhouse too Diane. I am just waiting for the frost before I put the fleece on. I lost too many favourites last year and it takes very little time to lift them. It also saves me the time and expense of replacing them. I will only put the heater on under very low temperatures. To a certain degree Costas they will have to survive as little care as I intend to give them.

Thank you everyone. I am an allotment gardener because the ground at my flat is sub-standard clay. I know what its like to lose expensive plants, all mine are now in containers. Costas, I dont intend to cover them over with the top of the boxes, just provide a warmer 'surround' and base. The fleece will let the light in.
Most supermarkets now have cardboard shredding machines in the storeroom. The trick is to find a shelf filling person, stand by them, ask if you can have the cardboard boxes and wait until they unload them. Its amazing how they do this automatically now, I almost had to grab the boxes before they were flattened !

I have taken my Fuchsia`s into my greenhouse now, my Geraniums have been in the other greenhouse for a few weeks now, I am undecided as to whether to move all the geraniums into the top greenhouse as well or leave them where they are, I did that last winter because I only heat one and still lost them all,oh dear, decisions, decisions....
Good idea Diane as regards the boxes, have to give that a go, thanks for the tip...

Watch that weather forecast daily, from now on.
Some people cover Hardy plants in the ground with Bubble wrap Costas, you could have some ready.
