Shredded paper of any kind can be used to conserve moisture in Runner Bean rows, in compost bins,
and Wormeries.

Thanks Diane, my sweetpeas and leeks are growing in homemade newspaper pots again, later my beans will be started off in the same way, I also pop shreddings in my compost bins it helps stop it getting too wet and slimy especially when the grass cuttings are being added....

Thanks Lincs and Hywel. Latest news is that grass mowings should be well dried for several weeks, before adding to compost bins - I forget why !

I always have put newspaper at the botom of runner bean rows, and sweet peat too. They like moisture retentive material to grow in.
