A useful job for a winter afternoon.

I have learned Herbs do best in poor sandy soil, with the exception of Mint. They produce more flavouring and better nutrition.
Supermarket Herbs are grown with fertilisers, have poorer
flavouring and nutrition content.
They should not be watered. In hot weather they emulate
their natural growing conditions in hot regions, produce
better oils and stronger growth.
I had 2 bags of Horticultural Sand in my greenhouse, so went out and replanted my Herbs in the balcony tubs ready for the spring.
Seems they also respond well to a monthly spray of
1 × 300 g. soluble aspirin in 1 litre of water on a dry morning. Will remember that.
Mint needs a good soaking once a month.
We live and learn, – thanks to James Wong.

I tend to neglect our herbs, not that there are many. I can see now why they aren't doing badly!

Thanks, Diane.

(The Aspirin tip is quite new to me. It's a stronger dose than the one I take every morning!)

now this winter afternoon I sorted out all my embroidery threads onto card 'bobbins' into a plastic organiser. They are numbered and in numerical order :o) Its a job I've been putting off for several months.

Thank you all for your comments. Its important for us
to keep active this time of year.
Am pleased to hear Aunty is coming home, she will be so happy to be back with you all.
Thats a very good system for embroidery silks SBG.
I started a picture of Oakham Church, must get back to it.
When the light improves.
Plants are so individual Eirlys arnt they ? We still have much to learn and remember. My garden is very windy, am just pleased I stocked up with strong stems recommended by Alan Titchmarsh last year. I bought some more Iris corms in the b.o.g.o.f. sale at the G.C. this week.
Will put them into pots to add to my new Iris bed when the weather improves.
