A car is connected to gardening, so here goes.

I have learned you only have one ignition key.
If you want a spare in case of theft or loss, you have to go through the manufacturer, as its code is on their computer.
The black plastic part of your ignition key is electronic.
It controls the ignition of the car. Its a waste of time
using a steering wheel lock, although its a deterrent to thieves, even locking the doors.
Without it the car wont move. All very clever.
The metal part just fits the lock, which is called a ‘barrel’.
To get a spare key costs £100 via the manufacturer’s computer. I am thinking about getting one.
The ‘barrel’ on my old car steering wheel failed.
A new ‘barrel’ had to be obtained from the manufacturer
with a new key, which cost £200. This took 4 weeks.
To get a spare key will be another £100.
My engineer tried to fit a push button starter but it wouldnt work. No electronic code.
I always stow my ignition key in the side pocket of my handbag. I know a lot of men shove their keys in their side pocket. They dont know the risk they are taking.
Happy gardening ! Be very careful with your car keys.

I have done that Eirlys, not with the keys, but it is very easy to upset something in the pocket whilst bending into the car seat. Always look round the brake lever for lost items.
My feet feel lovely today, had the Mustard Foot Bath this
a.m. The Pharmacist was most surprised when I told him
it cures Gout, and that my Corns had disappeared.

I dropped my car keys once, Diane as I stood with the boot open. Unfortunately, I was standing on a drain grating at the time and despite my trying with my foot, to stop the falling down, they did......an expensive drop!

Nightmare Diane! How horrid. I put my keys in my pocket as I don't carry a handbag very often - tend to leave it in places so its more trouble than its worth!
How did you make your foot bath please?
Paul, I've always dreaded doing that!

I usually look for drains in car parks, very careful.
I think a small shoulder secured bag better than the pocket Stera. When I put my Credit Cards in my pocket for quickness at a checkout, went out and got in my car,
the Cards fell out onto the brake. Felt an awful fool in front of a queue at the next check-out. Remembered, went out and checked my car, and there they were. (The shop staff were very kind to me.)
The Mustard foot bath is one level tablespoon of powder Mustard in hot water. I do it 2 days a week now, whilst reading the Blogs for 20 mins. Cured my Gout in 2 sessions. Corns have disappeared from my feet. Feet feel better now than they have for years. Its in Nicholas Culpeper British Herbal from 400 years ago. As a nation we have lost this heritage of medical knowledge which people had years ago when they had to pay the Doctor. As a child I remember my Dad always said he paid the Doctor's bill first or he wouldnt come. We had to go to his consulting room, his Dispensary was the next room. He mixed his own medicines and charged for them.

I knew of people who let their relatives die because they preferred to spend their wages on cigarettes in the pub, because they wouldnt pay the local doctor.
As soon as N.H.I.started they all were ringing up for free ambulance rides to the hospital, because they wouldnt pay out £3 for a taxi. They had known hard times, but they never did adjust the balance of life to better wages.
Modern life is much better now.

Yes we have a lot to be thankful for. thanks for the info. I have a Culpepper but don't remember seeing that in it. Will give it a try.

I have a a nice collection of some of my grandchildren's spare car keys that I'm "minder" to. An expensive hobby, losing car keys Dianebulley, and sounds like very time consuming and VERY expensive. "There but for the grace of God go I". It could happen to anyone.

I dont know any details of car manufacturers Sbg. It
may be a new innovation to prevent theft.
I have a lot of spare keys in a jar, cant remember what they belonged to.
Someone once said if you live on a new estate and lose your keys, if you go round all the new houses and ask to see their keys you will find the one to get copied to replace your own. Seems they fit a batch of similar keys, one to each house taking it in turns.

I have two chains connected to my belt; one is for connecting to my car and house keys and they go in my right front pants pocket and the other is connected to a "truckers wallet" and that goes into my left front pocket. This arrangement saves my senior moments for other matters such as trying to remember where I parked my car in a large parking lot or whether or not I took the right pill at the right time or whether I took a pill at all.

Having had time to think this over, it would seem to me now that Sbg was charged £100 for the second ignition key in the purchase price of her new car.
Oh the tricks they pull !
Loosetrife is very competent at managing her keys and pills etc. We all need to do this. I never change anything.
Easiest way is to stick to the regular daily routine.
It provides a momentum when we live alone, and everything gets done on the day it is designated to.
This leaves daily space for gardening jobs according to season and weather.

I don't think so Diane. As it was I got the car £1800 below list price due to haggling. [they are over priced anyway in my opinion]It is standard to give 2 keys on any new car. Certainly when we have bought secondhand cars we have had to negotiate a second one if there wasn't one available.

Its not as easy to keep things in pockets as it was though. They seem to have a tendency to be a lot shallower than they were on ladies clothes- can't think why - it can hardly be to save on material. They certainly wouldn't accommodate a Truckers Wallet, which sounds pretty bulky! Shame as it sounds like a useful idea.

Yes, we have always had two keys, Diane. I use mine infrequently as with one car once it set the alarm off and I didn't know how to stop it!

Oh, Diane, what an expensive palaver! It hit home to me as yesterday my husband thought he had lost his keys : car, house, garage etc. We searched the car finally and found they had slipped down between the seats. We were relieved, and I am even more so after reading the above!
