The prolonged heatwave is hard for those of us

who have to carry water to our plants in tubs.
An idea today may help others.
I had 4 small bags of washed gravel in the greenhouse, cost just over £2 each, couldnt remember why I bought
them.
Today I thought of a use for them. Carried 4 gallons of water up the garden in containers. Emptied one gallon onto a dried up tub, then emptied a bag of gravel onto the wet surface around the plant stems. Used it as a mulch.
Conserves water.
Next winter I will bring more home when I go to the GC
if they are ‘in stock’ they will be ready for future summers.

The chairs around your courtyard are good.
I find one
gallon former plastic containers helpful to carry liquids to plants such as plant foods, but they do need a good wash when starting.
I have another walking aid to take up my garden, the bag on the front is also handy for small tools, or whatever.

I have gravel around my acers and all my succulents and alpines, it does help Diane, just be careful when you are lugging these things about, don't want you injuring yourself...

Thanks Lincs. I am slow these days. Think the Alpine
gravel very good.
Anyone with a large lawn or churchyard that needs mowing
can get plenty of mulching material with a roll of bags
during this dry weather.

What a great idea :) I have some unused aquarium gravel, so I could use that around mine. Thank you :)
