Creating Paradise

Hello there well thought i would write my first blog here goes, The garden we inherited when we moved in 2005 was as you can see from the photo unkempt and looking a little sad.The first thing to go was the shrubs in front off the windows the lawn was rye grass and about 2 foot high so that was cropped. Fencing was next but we did not need to pull it down a mini tornado did that for us its true. With the garden been on a slight gradient i wanted to tier it . top patio ,then a terrace and then the garden . the previous owner built the first wall and steps for us before we moved in ,he was in the process off doing this when the house was put up for sale so we were pleased he had completed it before he moved out. With the garden been down 14 plus steps all product required for the build had to be carried down in buckets or slid down in my home made shute ,a godsend,After rotovating and leveling the first plants were placed in their pots to see, where best they would look all this done under the scrutiny off my partner and co designer. The product we required for the garden was 2 .5 tons off top soil ,20 bales off compost 1 ton off rotten horse manure all of which was rotovated in and off course the new turf 216sq foot in all. The day the turf came was a nice fine day but all was to change by the afternoon yes rain still we carried on ,after hours off been soaked to the skin it was down and been watered which gave it the boost it needed.Next job finish off the patio after the retaining wall was built, i filled in the level with what ever i could lay my hands on concrete beams from my sons old garage rubble and stones we had dug out off the garden 4 tons off ballast topped it up.It was then whacked down for two days ,i was still vibrating a week later. Then left over the winter to see iff it moved ie sunk no problems so was then left in the hands off my builder .20sq metre off Indian Stone and skin for walls good old Yorkshire stone. This project took 2 years to complete. thanks for reading hope not too boring .

Not boring at all - you've accomplished a lot in two years! I've been in my house for 4 years and have hardly done a thing.

You must feel very proud of what you've created from pic.1 - very artistic design features and lovely planting. Well done!

What a view from your house.Your design and planting are wonderful and you can be rightly proudof yourselves. You did right to level out all the sections of garden as it makes it so much easier to work or play in. Well done.
