Rainy day

My stitches were taken out yesterday, & I was ready for some gardening action, albeit gentle. But it rained all day & then more heavily overnight too. Good thing is that the garden did not have to be watered yesterday & will definitely not have to be watered today. Of course, after being cooped up indoors for two weeks now, post-surgery, I felt quite fed-up & very bored, so went online to our NZ trading site (like Ebay) & went through the gardening section. Some unusual plants up for sale, but mainly up Auckland way, or down in the South Island, & too big to courier. But I did find two people specialising in certain plants, so that was fun. One had a great many lovely daylilies listed, so although I do have some coming from another specialist daylily nursery, I sucumbed & bought three new ones off this lady. The other lady had some lovely iris listed, so I have no doubt at all, that I will get some off her at some point in the not too distant future … I have a great fondness for bearded iris. So pictured below are the three daylilies I bought yesterday & they should be with me next week .. from top to bottom … Booroobin Magic … Charlie Pierce Memorial …. Court Magician. My three new roses arrived yesterday afternoon & we will hopefully get those planted in at the weekend (if the rain stops), & can then get my other new plants popped in around them. Then, I think that new side fenceline border, will start to take on the look of a garden. Only half of it has been dug out so far, so still some way to go before the other half will be ready to plant up. Then there is a trellis fence with an arch & gate to go up, in order to divide that side area with its pergola, from the much larger back area. David will put that up & we intend to go looking for the trellis on Saturday afternoon. Something to look forward to, & we can do that whether it is raining or not. Our wisteria Black Dragon, which was nothing more than a stick when we planted it six weeks ago, is now happily sprouting lovely ferny leaves all over the place, much to David’s delight.

Hello Dwyllis! That's so great you've got your stitches out, I'm sure you feel better for that! I love your new daylilies, they are breeding some crackers now, the simple ones are lovely too, but sometimes only a big blousy double will do! I haven't any iris, but I do have daylilies, and I love them, they keep going for absolute ages don't they?! I know I have Frans Hal, Bonanza, Stella d'Oro, oh! and a new one I got last year called Golden Zebra, it has gold and green variegated leaves, with yellow flowers, and it's great in the slightly shaded spot I needed something bright for. The sword shaped leaves are just the thing missing from that bit of the border and this seems to really do the trick! Take it easy now, just a little a day will let you get better, and stay better, so no wrecking yourself through overdoing it!

Now do not try to do too much too soon. I love your new daylillies, the first one particularly lovely, it has a lovely edge matching the eye of the lily so pretty. Enjoy your garden but take care not to overdo it.

Thankyou everyone. It's raining again today & quite cool ... I'm back to wearing my quilted jacket indoors ... no central heating in our part of the world. I am itching to get out into the garden, so feel quite frustrated. But I am hoping the weekend will be fine & we can get some plants put in. Back to work in two weeks.
