I have one last chickeny thing to say… next time your tempted to buy the cheaper, non-free range eggs, think of this little chook, look her in the eye and tell her what a bargain those caged hens eggs are. I’m not a campaigner or anything, I just love my girls and am very passionate about battery hens.

I always buy free range eggs from a small holding on the hillside near here. They are much cheaper than the supermarket, and they are beautiful for just £1. There's an honesty box for you to put your money in.

I couldn't buy battery eggs. They would turn on my stomach :o((

Hi Emma I've been looking at your photos. We always buy free range eggs. Hoping one day to have my own chooks. Need to know how much money I need to save up to buy all the equipement and stuff. There is no man in this house so noone to make a coop or do other jobs

Hi Great, the most expensive item to buy will be the coop for the chickens and a run. Most garden centres and pet shops now stcock them (I know Frosts here sell chickens and all the stuff to go with them) ebay also have lots for sale. The prices vary, but naturally some chains are more expensive than others, so shop around. If you find a good bargain, like a small shed (a lads shed we managed to come across on sale) you can adapt it to suit you and the chickens.

the cost of chicken coops and runs (you can get them all in one) can start at approx £80. Maybe take a look at ebay to start with to get an idea of styles and prices.... Once you start looking online, you find all kinds of sites which sell chicken housing so keep looking, decide what style you like and then compare prices. Once your set up, the feed etc isnt too expensive to buy, so it this initial outlay of their sleeping quarters which is the biggest cost.

If you want to borrow my Kev at all, I'm sure he wont mind :D
