Hot Lips Sage (Lipstick Plant)
Genus: Salvia.
Species: Salvia x 'Hot Lips'.
Purchased and planted in the backyard 2007. This plant blooms from summer-fall; attracts hummingbirds.It loves the sun. Water usage is low once established. Cold hardiness 20 to 10 degrees fahrenheit. It has bicolor flowers white with red lips. Actually, the flowers are often quite different bloom to bloom even on a single branch. A few are entirely white, a few more are completely red but the majority are red and white. It blooms beginning in May, is in richest bloom in summer, and will keep flowering deep into autumn. In winter the leaves of 'Hotlips' turn a dark wine-red.
