Species: Leycesteria formosa.
I love this plant. It is a shrub or tree depending on how you want it to grow. My mum took a cutting from her own plant which is gorgeous and I just love the flowers and the berries. I think it's one of the most beautiful plants you can have in the garden.
I've read that it was a favourite in the Victorian garden but the fell out favour however, it is now experiencing a revival in popularity; this is great news!
Some blogs/facts state that it self-seeds therefore is a total pest but I can't wait for it to take hold elsewhere! I'll either keep the plants where they appear, move to somewhere more suitable or share them with friends.
