Species: Dianthus caryophyllus.

Planted here and there in the front yard where conditions for growth are met. Needs full sun; flower stems 15" - 20" tall; Spread 12 -18". Hardiness Zone: 3-9 (-40 degrees Fahrenheit). Flowers come in mixed - red, pinks, white, yellow, picotee, two tone. Blooms from mid spring to summer. In areas with extremely hot summers, shade in the afternoon is recommended. Dianthus blooms best in cooler summers. Soil requirements - moist, well drained - slightly alkaline.
