Jenny44's Garden
Acer Aureum
Genus: Acer.
Species: Acer shirasawanum.
We decided on this species after discovering the fabulous unique leaf shape and colour. We bought her in spring 09 and planted her in May. We are a little concerned about the soil quality as it is in place of a big conifer. We sought much advice and dug a huge amount of earth out and filled it with ericaceous compost. About a month after planting, the leaves became wind burnt and went brown and curly around the edge. They never recovered. Whilst I am seeing a trend here with our poor Acer luck, once again I am hoping spring will bring a lovely healthy flush of leaf growth.
