Acer palmatum 'Inaba Shidare'
Genus: Acer.
Species: Acer palmatum.
Fast-growing for a Japanese maple, holds its color well in the shade. Mine is three years old and is still 4 feet tall, the same height as when I got it. They can eventually reach close to 10 feet but mine has only gotten wider. Leaves are dark-maroon in summer and bright scarlet red in fall. Leaves are susceptible to damage by late frosts in Spring and early frosts in fall but I have not had any significant damage.
