Diohio's Garden
Cohosh, Blue
Species: Caulophyllum thalictroides.
Blue Cohosh is a native perennial that grows in my back woods and in my yard. It likes wet shade, deciduous woods. The poisonous blue berries sit on top of a characteristically thickened stem and together they resemble a miniature light bulb. Leaves resemble those of Early Meadow Rue or Tall Meadow Rue, hence the species name, thalictroides.
A very close relative is Giant Blue Cohosh with purple flowers.
