A hardy biennial with sweetly scented purple to crimson blooms.
Sow outdoors, April to July, 0.5cm deep into finely prepared soil that has already been watered. Seedlings usually appear in 14-28 days. Thin seedlings to 5cm apart when large enough to handle. Plant out to flowering position in autumn, allowing 15cm between plants. To encourage a bushy habit and more flowers, pinch out the growing tips when plants are 10-15cm high. Plants then flower the following spring.
