Scottish's Garden
Centaurea macrocephala
Species: Centraurea macrocephala.
Gift from Sheila (Scotsgran) spring 2013.
A most splendid border plant with large, yellow, thistle-like flower-heads up to 10cm (4in) across in summer. Magnificent in the garden and makes a long-lasting cut flower. Divide clumps every few years to maintain its vigour, replanting strong pieces into compost-enriched soil. Despite that its heavy flowers are carried on tall waist-high stems, it rarely needs staking.
