Diohio's Garden
Spiderwort, Widow's Tears
Genus: Tradescantia.
Species: Tradescantia virginiana.
A native wildflower here, but only a few ever found in my woods. I transplanted several to my yard and now they are reproducing nicely. Most are bluish-purple but some are more pinkish-purple. Native americans used the roots to make a tea to treat various stomach, kidney and female ailments. The leaves were also mashed andmade into a poultice for insect bites and skin inflamation.
