Bird of Paradise
Genus: Caesalpinia.
Species: Caesalpinia pulcherrima.
The Bird of Paradise is an evergreen bush that grows to 6 - 15 feet tall and wide. This plant is relatively frost sensitive and is generally better to trim it close to the ground in winter. This keeps it more compact without seeming to delay it in spring. Requires infrequent deep watering. Seeds are toxic.

Planted BoP near the front east wall and between the Junipers out front May 2007. Noted in the winter that it dies down to the roots (I thought it was gone!) and is just beginning to come back July 2008. Must remember to leave the bare stems in winter so I'll remember where it's at!
