Growing together the snowdrops come to life as the cyclamen flowers are passing there best.
Like the autumn crocus the leaves are produced after the flowers go over.
More Snowdrop buds can be seen at the bottom of the picture they will probably be in full flower in about three days

Linda no this is there normal time to flower same as the autumn crocus. I have other snowdrop species that flower later this month and others in November and December. I have to mimic the Mediterranean areas they come from warm and dry in summer so they live in the alpine house then a good soaking in September and away they go.
Some people in the East of the UK succeed with them outside but not in the wet west where I am.

No chance for us being in the wet south (in the winter) then?

are winter galanthus very expensive then Brian. I know some people pay silly prices for snowdrops but generally what are they like for price. Will they grow outside if given good drainage, such as under a large beech tree?

Most grow better outside than inside certainly increase quicker. Downside is the terrible weather often spoils the flowers, so I have a few each of different varieties in the troughs under cover (have just explained about them on the cyclamen flowers pic) for you.
No reason why winter ones will not be alright in your garden, best bought when growing(in the green)
There are several Autumn varieties all come from areas that are warm/hot in summer so they are in the summer troughs inside throughout the year, baked from April to September together with the Crocus and Cyclamen you see in flower now.
Some areas of the UK they grow alright outside but not in the wet West.

Amy that's an interesting one, may well have sent you Atkinsii that is a tall variety(12in +) that flowers Jan so would not expect to see it until December
The Autumn flowering ones there are several are never large (6in maximum) also it flowers before the leaves same as the autumn Crocus do. Keep me posted.
