One of my very first cacti, which I got in 1965 :o)

That weed is nothing to what's in some of the pots lol The cacti are so spikey, I can't get near enough to pull the weeds out ! :D
Thank you, I'm pleased you like the cactus ... :o)

You could try using tweezers Hywel, I remember my Nan doing that. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a pair of tweezers ... somewhere ...lol
The weeds' days are numbered (after I find the tweezers ! - they are definitely here somewhere)

Do you remember little pots of cacti that were sold as miniature gardens in Woolworth's many years ago, Hywel? I often used to buy one with saved-up pocket money. I don't think I developed the skill of keeping them for very long, though! This picture just reminded me about them - something about the size and shape of the pot, I think.

Lol Hywel. :)

Looking at the photo again, I think the pot is a lot larger than I thought!

The pot is a foot across. The cactus is quite big.

I see that now - it's funny how you can get the wrong idea in a photograph. I hadn't looked at the background at all!

The background isn't very nice to look at anyway :o(

Lol - that's not what I meant! ;-)

I realise that, but it's true lol ... I take photos on a whim and don't give the background any thought ... I'm rather impulsive. I should really have tidied the cactus up and got rid of the weed, before taking the photo.

Did you find your tweezers Hywel?? Lol
6 Nov, 2013
I do that, too, Hywel. I only see what I was focusing on until I see it on the computer. Then I delete it!!!

Yes Grandmage, I did find the tweezers :o) and was going to go round all my cacti soon ... so I put them somewhere 'safe' and now can't remember where it was !
Melchisedec, what a shame you delete them. I don't suppose anyone would notice the background. I don't notice it on my photos until it's too late lol

I've just lost a whole load of pics I hadn't yet backed up. The hard drive failed, and I had to get a new one fitted. That'll larn me! (Some of my photos are only fit for deleting, Hywel! I retake them if necessary - that's one of the advantages of a digital camera.)
7 Nov, 2013
Most of my photos are also fit to be deleted. I only show the best ones, and that's after I've modified them lol
I only show about one out of every 20 I take !
As you say, it's the advantage of a digital photography.
Something happened to my computer once, and the man in the shop gave me the hard drive out of it, and I can plug it into my new laptop. He said everything was still on it. Maybe that's the case with you. You could enquire about it. It would be a shame for you to loose all your photos.

Fortunately, most of my photos were recovered. The man in the shop saved all the data he could - there was quite a lot that I still have. The hard drive itself was useless, I'm afraid. Of course, I had to re-install the hardware - printer etc - but nowadays that's very straightforward.

That's good news then :o)
