That's nice. A very healthy clump. I'm glad it has survived the bad weather. It looks as if it's in bud :o)

It doing a lot better than the climbing hydranger I planted nearby, as something eats the leaves on it every summer. It's only 12" high and it's 3 or 4 years ago I planted it! as most annoyed, maybe replace it with Cotoneaster!

Good choice. Maybe you could try the hydrangea in a pot for a while and see if you can catch the culprit. I have a climbing hydrangea and they have lovely flowers. Pitty if you get rid of it.

Thats a good pot idea Hywel. I know I've seen ants in the area, there is also an aphid that eats the leaves. I like the idea of an evergreen cotoneaster!

Lol Milky, I thinks thats two of them, I have 6 in all along the NE facing side of the house and they are doing really well, even a few seedlings i noticed. Hywel, I forgot to look if they were little buds because I was more busy in my workshop grouting two of my mosaics and two mosaics done by some kiddy guests who came to stay, sure kept me busy!
