Clianthus White April 21

Clianthus White April 21

The white Clianthus is usually a month or more behind the red in flowering. Maybe the snow and cold that stripped their leaves after Christmas brought them together.

Lovely companion planting, Thorneyside. It’s a new one on me, both very striking.

I had tried to start this from seed, but wasn't successful.

I still think the red is the most spectacular, but not the easiest. They look like they are in pots?

They've always been in pots Siris but upgraded to bigger pots until they're in my biggest. I'm not sure if that's when they give up the ghost but I like to have reserves growing on. With the river at the bottom of the garden and the water table rise in winter I wouldn't risk planting in the garden. Did you see my blog last year on growing these from seed? Well I have a green house full of year old babies. More whites than reds but a LOT of babies!!

Yes, it does look like a poly tunnel at the back. I didn't realise that the black bits were seeds until I read your blog last year, by which time it was too late. I'm going to collect the seed off Pink Flamingo as soon as it's ripe, now I know for what I'm looking, and sow immediately.
