Areca triandra - Triandra Palm

Six Triandra Palms growing at the Paradise Point Resort, San Diego, CA. This palms isn't very common outdoors here in S. California. It's extremely tropical. Photo taken Jan. 1, 2011.

Yes, these are doing pretty well. This palm has to be planted in a very protected spot. It's an understory palm which is native to Malaysia and southern India.

Yes. I had one once...planted it out in the middle of winter...and it died. Most palms, plants are put in the ground in fall or winter to get established in the winter rains...this palm was definitely too tender to cool weather.

Yes, because now this palm is very expensive to purchase. It used to be very cheap at one time for a large palm (6ft/2m tree with several trunks used to be only $20.00) now, it's more than $120.00 for a small 3 ft/1m plant.
