A fairly large Australian Banyan tree in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. This tree was drastically cut back 3 years ago. It may have been because they didn't wan't to put cables throughout the big branches, which is a common practice with huge Banyan trees here. Photo taken Mar. 3, 2011.

Thanks neighbor! :>)
I've taken pics of many of the very large Australian Banyans. I do know by attaching the large cables in the huge branches...it seems to help with storm damage. I'm guessing it cost a lot to do this, though.

There was an even larger Banyan not far from this one just to the south of El Prado that literally split down the middle during a storm some years back. I can't blame them to much for the occasional heavy pruning in an effort to preserve this grand tree. Nice picture.
