Yes, it grows on the sides of mountains. It will grow in a garden provided you can keep it dry during its summer resting period. It is listed by six specialist nurseries in the UK according to Plant Finder - not sure about the US

I am wondering what sort of soil it likes as well...I am going to look it up..if it is acidic...it may be a plant for me..we have very dry weather where I am for the most part..we are in the rain shawdow of the Olympic mt.s so it might just work out.

This would have to be grown in a bulb frame here and kept dry in summer...it can grow out in an open field in dryer and hotter in summer and colder & dryer eastern Washington however...it is so interesting to see ...from what I can glean as well they like a fairly rich loam..and very well areated of course..
