In fact it was very small when I first had it and it has developed.I have 2 of these.They die down to virtually nothing in the Winter and the remains go brown.It starts to regrow again in March.The cones are a lovely dark red at first and last a long time,turning green after when it produces seeds,which last all Summer.

I saw some of these at the Beth Chatto gardens in Essex. They were HUGE!!
They are certainly a stunning addition to the garden. I would love one but my garden is too small.Have you tried growing any of the seed?
