The late night snail patrols have started. Although I was a bit late a few already have holes in their leaves.

Peter, i put vasline round the top of my hosta pots to stop them getting to them, when they get near the vasline they just slide of the pots.

Really, Clarice? Does that work? I've heard of beer traps, copper rings, egg shells etc.. but not vaseline. How much do you have to put on?

Vasline is cheap so i so i put it thickish to make sure they can't get past it .

I think I'll give it a go. Maybe they see the giant slimy trail on the pots and decide they don't want to get into a fight with the enormous snail that must have left it :o)

Hello again Peter - Frank says wait till it gets dark, creep out there with some pepper, and when you hear them sneezing, hit them with a mallet. Ha Ha Ha
Glad.

'I Spy' a strawberry plant amongst your Hostas Peter.......You need some frogs , they will keep the slugs/snails down.

Good spot Lin! I started a wood pile last year to try & encourage frogs. Not sure whether it will be successful or not.

Have you got a pond Peter, whether a fish pond or a wildlife pond, just somewhere the frogs can spawn. You will Have frogs everywhere !!
